Christmas tree program marks school event at the village

On Friday evening December 18 Miss E Osborne led a school Christmas party. The decorated schoolhouse hosted a large tree with presents while Jack Fenton chaired the program. Students performed poems and dialogues, speeches were given by Newton Morrison Armstrong and Walker, Santa distributed gifts, and a dainty lunch followed a dance at Mr Armstrong's. Osborne departs for normal school and neighbors wish her well.

Lt Col C D McRae, chief remount commissioner, arrives in Winnipeg to buy cavalry and artillery horses directly from owners, avoiding dealers. Purchasers will cover Manitoba Saskatchewan and Alberta with local sale days to minimize transport. Requirements include age 5–9 years, heights 16 hands to 15.3 hands, and wind tests for all horses.

Piapot Settler Dies Leaves Wide Kin Network

Elijah A. Levis aged 29 died today in the city hospital from heart failure. A Piapot homesteader who came from Ireland to western Canada in 1906 he left a widow and two children and siblings in Piapot. His remains will be shipped to Maple Creek for interment tomorrow afternoon.
