Kennedy Macmillan Meet Promise East West Talks

The Bermuda talks yielded plans to push East West negotiations on Berlin with U S leadership under a U S–British effort. Yale Lighting Contest Winners

Medicine Hat held its seventh annual Christmas lighting contest co sponsored by the Jaycees and The NEWS. Four winners received plaques today in The NEWS building. Recipients include James Mills for best Santa display, Mrs. Floyd King for best window display, James Cairney for religious theme best depicting the true spirit of Christmas, and George Murray for best general display. An honorable mention list features Dr. G Elder Walter Fraser Arthur Wallin and Robert Morris. The contest drew 60 entries.

Lawyer Courtemanche claims frame up in Senate resignation

MONT LAURIER Que CP Henri Courtemanche a 45 year old lawyer and former Progressive Conservative MP for Labelle says he is framed in a political plot after resigning from the Senate. He considers running as an independent in the next federal election to tell the real story and insists he is innocent and has a clear conscience. He noted politicians have enemies and pledged to reveal what happened in the campaign. He was appointed to the Senate Jan 20 1960 and is a native of Mont Laurier located about 120 miles northwest of Montreal.

UN Troops struggle for control in Elisabethville Congo

UN forces clash with Katanga troops and Baluba tribesmen in Elisabethville as Indian Gurkhas raid a police station, yielding rifles and guns. Alberta Extends Hospital Help Plan Across Provinces

Alberta residents treated in hospitals outside the province after January 1 will receive the same government financial assistance as at home. The plan expands coverage to those travelling or relocating and allows eligibility before domicile rules are completed. The current flat-rate system remains for United States hospitals.
