Dr. J. M. Brown cautions parents and group directors about letting children become fatigued during Christmas activities as a polio precaution. He notes no new polio cases recently but urges rest, fewer large parties, and staying near home until the menace is eliminated.
Mrs June Anderson welcomed two boys and a girl at Holy Cross hospital Calgary. The triplets arrived at 6 15, 6 52 and 6 59 a m. All three babies and the mother are reported well by hospital officials. Father is Glen Anderson of Cochrane, Shell Oil employee.
The idea for Salvation Army kettles grew from a cauldron swinging on a crane during the 1894 San Francisco dock strike. Captain Joseph McFee placed a kettle at Market Street, inspiring a nationwide program of about 350 kettles this Christmas. The kettles evolved to plastic spheres, and donors frequently left notes or large gifts, with the Army nearly free of theft.

Canada reports four civilians at Alert on Ellesmere Island near the North Pole will receive Christmas turkey and canned pudding via RCAF transport. Two planes have launched from the base, with beacons of oil to guide the drop at 50 feet. A RCMP post at Alexandra Fiord may also receive a drop.
City council moved to amend the uniform city act so ministers living in church owned manses could be ratepayers for a $1 daily hospitalization scheme. The plan, proposed after a ministerial association request, would exclude bank and mill managers in company houses who are considered better paid.
Edmonton reports that Donald Stoneham, 22, of Oakland Manitoba, who drove the vehicle in a fatal accident near Whitla on September 26, could be charged. Four people died including Morris Grimshaw of Bienfait and Joe Zahanovich of Fort Macleod. two transport drivers aiding the Greyhound bus perished, and Norman Christofferson escaped with minor injuries.
Mr. Stoneham remains seriously injured at the focal hospital after a three month stay and could face discharge around mid January. The preliminary inquest was adjourned sine die and may not reconvene if the attorney-general lays a charge. It stands as the worst highway traffic accident in Southern Alberta this year.
In Belleville Texas Ruth Ellen Haak arrived with a Santa Claus delivery. Dr H E Roensch wearing a Santa suit assisted by his wife prepared the costume before a phone call announced the mother was in labor. The doctor delivered Ruth Ellen to the Haak family in that festive moment.
The weather forecast says most of Canada except the far west and parts of Ontario will see snow on Christmas Eve. Temperatures range from mild on the Pacific coast to very cold in the central provinces, with snow in northern Ontario and the Maritimes. Vancouver reports 38 degrees.

Elizabeth Gladys Robinson widow of former Alberta minister Dr. J Robinson retained Medicine Hat riding for Social Credit with 2463 votes to Edwin W. Horne 744 on a 26.5 percent turnout. Horne conceded within 40 minutes. Robinson to Edmonton for Yuletide then back to prepare for 1954 Alberta legislature.
Medicine Hat City Council approved a bylaw allowing tax prepayment for 1954 assessments with a five percent interest if paid between January 2 and June 30. Taxes for 1954 are due July 1 to August 31, with penalties starting at one percent in September and rising to six percent after December. Prepayment funds support current operating costs, reducing city borrowing and aiding ratepayers.
Edmonton weather reports higher temperatures returning as wintery conditions fade. Mild air spreads into Saskatchewan by Wednesday bringing temperatures into the low 30s. No fresh snow is expected but significant drifting of recent snowfall may occur in southern Alberta tonight and Wednesday.
The CPR introduces new eight foot longer cabooses with steel wheels and larger windows. Ald. Earl Smith, a CPR freight conductor, notes the units provide a home like apartment on wheels with a refrigerator, beds, breakfast nook, and extra safety features. Five units head to Medicine Hat division and five to Calgary, with Moose Jaw also receiving five.
