First escape from gravity Apollo 8 lifts off toward the moon

Russians increase prison sentence for Canadian Leithead
In Moscow a Soviet court increased to three years the sentence of Canadian William B. Leithead for narcotics smuggling. The ruling overturned an Aug. 26 two year sentence after prosecutors appealed.
