Supreme Court frees Violi twins in deportation case

The Supreme Court of Canada ruled 6 to 3 that Giuseppe and Rocco Violi were illegally detained in Bordeaux jail for eight months in Montreal under Tremblay's warrant. It directed their release and quashed the deportation orders, ruling the Immigration Minister cannot suspend enforcement after granting probationary periods.

Freighter Smith Voyager Clings to Life at Sea

GM of Canada strike ends after 18 days

About 23,500 employees at five GM plants in Ontario returned to work after a new three year contract was approved. The walkout began December 1 and 3, with unions citing about 59 cents an hour in added value, including 30.77 cents in direct wages and 16.70 cents in pension gains.
