Alberta man dies in explosion at Kerr-McGee plant

An explosion at the Kerr-McGee natural gas processing plant in central Alberta killed one man and injured five others. Four workers were treated locally, one flown to Edmonton for leg fractures, and another to Misericordia Hospital by ground ambulance. The blast occurred as a contractor cut through a floor with a torch, rupturing ammonia piping and igniting a fire.

Lumber talks strike logjam ends without agreement

The United States accused Canada of intransigence as talks to end the lumber dispute broke for the weekend without a deal.
