Herman Sund, about 45, held under guard after allegedly hammering his 18 month old daughter Edith and attacking two mill workers near his Vancouver home. The infant, in fair condition with concussion, was found at the hospital. Engineer John McAloney reported Sund accused him of having the child and tried to strangle him before mill hand Bob Walker intervened and was bitten. Sund was subdued by six men after a mill-wide chase.

Lynchers Foiled at Court in Shelbyville Bayonet Clash
In Shelbyville Tennessee on December 19 National guardsmen guarding the Harris trial opened fire as a mob attacked the county courthouse. Several killed and wounded were reported as the assault escalated with guns and bayonets used against guardsmen guarding E. K. Harris a 22 year old negro accused of attacking a 14 year old girl. Harris was later disguised in a guardsman uniform and spirited from the courthouse.

Orphaned Stam Girl Receives Care In Wuhu Hospital
Four month old Helen Priscilla Stam, an orphan, is fed and housed at Wuhu General Hospital as Chinese authorities move to punish the Communist killers of her missionary parents Mr and Mrs J C Stam. Five suspects were seized and four executed. Dr C K Lo and wife helped the child to safety and to reach the hospital after a 70 mile trek.

Sixteen of Sisto's Crew Rescued by S S N York
Aboard the S S Europa in the mid Atlantic, December 18 1934 the Norwegian freighter Sisto sent SOS calls as a storm raged. Sixteen crew members were rescued from the sinking ship and transferred to the liner New York with help from the Europa and White Star liner Aurania The rescuers worked under powerful searchlights amid high seas and damaged rudder and bridge from the storm.
