Telegrams from London and Berlin report shifting Russian positions near Warsaw, with Austro German advances toward Cracow and Galicia. French and German bulletins describe Belgian advances around Dixmude and Ypres, Meuse and Aisne activity, and a subdued Berlin reaction praising a Polish victory with cautious optimism.
On Tuesday evening the Young Liberals Club opens its Becker block apartments with a smoker. A cordial welcome is extended to all Liberals.
The beautful convent school on Crescent Heights near the Saskatchewan river completes construction at seventy five thousand dollars. The Sisters of Charity of St Louis will operate the academy which accommodates one hundred pupils with dormitories for boys and girls and a view over the city from the south side windows.

Edmonton December 19. Alderman Joseph Clarke was arrested on five charges of conspiracy to commit crimes and to bring men to Edmonton to break the criminal code. Chief Hill led the charges. Clarke was released on bail with sureties. The incident follows weeks of rumors linking Clarke to the safe blowing case.
Miss Ellen MacCourt died Thursday night. Her funeral from her brother Jno MacCourt Crescent Heights proceeded to St Patrick’s Church for 10 o’clock mass. Interment followed at St Patrick’s Cemetery.
London reports from the admiralty state that in the clash with German ships raiding the Yorkshire coast five Royal Navy sailors were killed and fifteen wounded aboard the light cruiser Patrol and the destroyer Doom. The German claim that two British destroyers were sunk is denied.
