Bulgarians hold lines two miles from the Greek frontier near Salonika as Anglo French officers expect an invasion by Bulgars or Germans within days. General Meschopules formally notifies General Sarral that Greek troops are withdrawing to free ground for belligerent nations.
London reports 200000 Allied troops fortifying around Salonika with trenches and artillery as Germans plan to advance into Greek territory. Bulgarians may cross if they join the conflict. Greek general election soon. Venizelos faction abstains. King Constantine remains firm.
Berlin and Vienna comment on the U S note about the Ancona affair. Ottawa reports the King has granted the Military Cross to Lieut. John Gibson Anderson of the 6th Battalion and Lieut. Albert William Northover of the 28th Battalion for gallantry on October 8, 1915. Anderson entered a sap, aided by Private Wyth, killed two Germans, recovered rifles, and aided prisoners. Northover, buried by mine debris near Wytschaete, took charge and denied the enemy a foothold in cratered ground.
Montreal Dec 17 Rev W E Hobart of Quebec has enlisted as a fighting officer in the 148th battalion for overseas service. He holds the provisional rank of lieutenant after three years as a lieutenant in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers reserve battalion.

The Third C.M.R. casualty list shows several Edmonton Medicine Hat members among the wounded and missing. William Garvie of Scotland is severely wounded, John B. Mitchell also wounded, and Rundle Coombe of England initially reported dead but later said to be safe in the trenches. Samuel Anderson of Edmonton is slightly wounded, with Henry Watson, Herbert C. McIntyre, Arthur Fielding, Rowan P. Fitzgerald among others noted as wounded.

In Spokane Washington on December 18 a street car plunged into the Spokane River near Division B bridge. The car carried early workers and casualties were reported between 15 and 30 killed. Two street cars were involved and the event interrupted daily service.
