Police said a car bomb exploded beside Harrods during the Christmas shopping rush killing nine people and injuring 75. Deputy assistant police commissioner David Powis said a warning was received prior to the blast but the timing remains unclear.
After a five hour meeting Alberta Progressive Conservative MLAs and MPs publicly disagreed with the federal Conservatives on the Canada Death Act. Hospitals Minister Dave Russell and Athabasca MP Jack Shields suggested a compromise if Conservatives win the next federal election. The caucus opposes the act though the federal party supports it.
Two bombers who attacked the U.S. Embassy are confined in a Kuwaiti hospital under heavy guard. Interrogators report one bomber refused to cooperate. medical teams removed the accomplice’s pancreas and expect an eight week recovery.

Donations to the Santa Claus Fund grew by about $5,000 in two days, with total cash gifts at $13,668.56 from letter and bubble appeals toward a $17,000 goal. Letter appeals contributed $11,704.33, bubble appeals $1,964.28, and food items plus Santa's Anonymous gifts outpace last year. The DRES Club at Suffield gave $1,000, Westminster United Church donated $227 cash and $175 in food, and the Oil Wives of Medicine Hat provided about $80 in nonperishable food.
