Air West Twin Otter survives Juan de Fuca Strait ditching
Sixteen aboard the Air West Twin Otter survived a forced landing in dense fog off Victoria after the plane hit the water four miles offshore. One of two dogs aboard died. Santa Claus fundraiser fined in provincial court
Two Hare Krishna members posing as Santa Claus were fined 91.50 each for soliciting funds without a permit in Medicine Hat. Edmonton residents Joseph Hendershott and George Wahoff identified as Veda Parvataka Das and Purandara Das were found collecting on downtown streets for the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. Police reported 192 in can funds. Judge Macdonald called the incident suspicious and the mayor urged residents to verify canvassers’ IDs to avoid Santa Claus scams.
