Two Quebec killers spared by cabinet clemency
Ottawa reports the federal cabinet commuted the death sentences of two Quebec men Camille Lantin a 22 year old Gaspe laborer and Fernand Aube a 33 year old Quebec City barber to life imprisonment. They were to be hanged for the shoelace strangulation of a 14 year old boy and for the beating and death of an elderly storekeeper in St Nicholas Quebec. Both will serve life terms at St Vincent de Paul penitentiary. This raises the cabinet clemency total to 30 since June 1957 with all 10 jury mercy cases included and seven executions to date.
