A rolling earthquake of high intensity shook northern Nevada and California early today causing only minor damage. The tremor, the heaviest of three since last July, was felt from Elko to most of California. Minor damage included cracked ceilings and loose bricks in Fallon, with Lovelock losing electric power in parts.
Civic authorities conducted a noon inspection of subway traffic at Sixth Avenue after reports of backups. UBC police court convict Robert Bates, an escapee from a B C penitentiary, of kidnapping Kenneth Morton. Magistrate Oscar Orr remanded Bates for sentencing on the Nov 21 incident, while Bates denied the charge and a gunfight recurred in the week prior. Morton testified Bates forced him at knifepoint to drive to downtown Vancouver. Bates, known as Balharry, had earlier been convicted on weapons and breaking and entering charges.
