Alfredo Rosales aged 32 is in intensive care in La Plata Argentina after reportedly eating an entire piglet for dinner. Doctors say he has been on a respirator since Saturday and the exact piglet size remains unknown.
Projections show ultranationalists and other hardline groups possibly winning up to two thirds of Russia's parliament after Yeltsin allies were decimated. Independent lawmakers could pivotal, with Liberal Democratic party leading the party vote and Russia's Choice second as 80 of 89 districts report.
British Prime Minister John Major and Irish Premier Albert Reynolds signed a seven page Downing Street declaration offering a framework for peace in Northern Ireland. Statistics Canada reports 13.7 percent of Alberta families were in poverty in 1992, up from 11.7 percent in 1991, well above the national increase. The study notes high poverty among single mothers and elderly, with 4.5 million Canadians below the poverty line and 1.265 million children under 18 in low income.

After seven years of bargaining the GATT package won final approval from world negotiators. Peter Sutherland hailed it as the most far reaching trade agreement and the world chose openness. Signing is planned in Marrakesh in April with implementation set for 1995 after legislative hurdles.
