Prime Minister Diefenbaker arrived in Ottawa ending a 54 day world journey. His RCAF C-5 landed at Uplands after a 35000 mile trip. He traveled with his brother Elmer and faced cabinet duties amid unemployment concerns.
In a heavy snowfall the ice breaker d'Iberville stopped near Trois Rivieres 90 miles downstream from Montreal as visibility failed and buoys disappeared. Snow halted St Lawrence traffic from Montreal to Quebec City while 17 ships waited in Montreal harbor. Fifteen Europe-bound vessels left Montreal harbor seeking Gulf and Atlantic passage. d'Iberville and Ernest Lapointe advanced ahead of two British freighters toward Quebec City as eight ships moved slowly through the Lachine Canal locks.
Belgrade reports Todor Lakotic aged 118, believed to be Yugoslavia's oldest man, died at Starinska Banja in southern Yugoslavia. Public notices confirm death details.
Ald. Roy Osborne to ask City Council tonight to invite federal and provincial governments to join in a long term plan for a major administration centre marking Canada’s Centennial in 1967. Proposed complex would include civic and provincial admin buildings, post office, a civic auditorium, a museum or library, with a new central site for multiple agencies. A Centennial committee in Medicine Hat could oversee planning after meetings with architects.

Premier Bennett touted a 1 billion highway and bridge program as the Liberals challenge the Social Credit stronghold. Candidates include F E Bobby DeVito for the CCF Donald Brothers for Social Credit Dr M E Krause Liberal and Alex Brokenshire PC.
Sidney police and RCMP officers arrested Ronald Tousignant in the north end of Sidney on a tip after his photo appeared in Weekend Magazine. He is wanted in St Hyacinthe Quebec for two attempted murders and was previously jailed for attempted murder during a jailbreak.
An anonymous caller warned of two bombs in a Calgary school, prompting evacuation of all city high schools. Police planned thorough searches, with classes set to resume later, though officials labeled the threat a crank call. Police Chief Larry Partridge said the caller gave no school level.
The parents of an eight day old baby with an Rh related blood disorder abandoned their bid to block transfusions. A special Toronto court placed the infant in the Children’s Aid Society for one month under the Ontario Child Welfare Act while doctors warned the child would die without treatment. Baby Campbell is reported very much better.

Police report Lester Lorenzo Jackson, 19, arrested Sunday in Maryland on assault charges tied to the Friday home invasion of contractor Felix Marchegiani. Four gunmen, including two wounded and one killed, targeted Marchegiani to force open his office safe. FBI tip linked plan to Corral Hills.
