British bombers struck Kiel and Bremen and attacked Dutch and French facilities in coordinated raids. RAF bombers hit Derna and other Libyan depots and fields as British forces advance in North Africa. Casualty and recovery details follow from the Marmara sea shipwreck.
LAC C. P. Hopton of Cabri Saskatchewan was found dead near his wrecked low wing monoplane five miles southwest of Camp Borden Ontario. He was due to receive his wings at Camp Borden on Thursday night after a formation flight ended in a snow storm. Four other men and two planes remain missing as search efforts continue.
Reported aboard the 10,926 ton British liner Western Prince sailing from New York on Dec 6 were Hon. C. D. Howe Canadian minister of munitions and supply H P Taylor Col W C Woodward and Hon Gordon Scott. Ottawa Citizen notes strong possibility but officials deny confirmation. Mackay Radio intercept claims torpedoing about 400 miles northwest of the Irish coast at 12 02 a m M S T. The vessel home port London was built 1929 Glasgow and owned by Prince Line Ltd.
A radio message captured by a British ship near Sidi Barrani describes 500 Italian infantry with hands raised and fleeing. An Italian officer, surprised by Greek, Albanian, and British advances, remarked uncertainty about the war and news from home.

In Miami on December 18 AP reports Prince Windsor and President Roosevelt aboard the cruiser Tuscaloosa discussed naval bases in the West Indies during a two week defense bases tour. The Duke, speaking as Bahamas governor, said the meeting followed a dramatic flight to an undisclosed Caribbean site.
A Romanian communique reports that a bridge and rail lines between Ploesti and Buzau were destroyed by an oil pipeline fire. Traffic will be suspended or rerouted for five to six days as repairs proceed.
A pedestrian, Doris Fecteau, sustained painful but not serious side injuries when a car skidded and struck her at the Ninth Street and Division Avenue intersection. She was taken to the Clinic and later returned home.

A large crowd filled the Empress theatre last night as the Melody Maids presented a grand patriotic concert and revue. E R Bullen's Alberta group drew wide acclaim for 22-voice harmony, period costumes, and patriotic program, with many turned away for lack of seating. Continued on Page Two.

The food ministry announced a cut in the British meat ration effective Monday. The weekly allowance per person will drop to the level of one shilling 10 pence instead of the temporarily raised two shillings two pence, bringing per person purchases back to the lower rate.
In Vancouver the Fairview Women’s Committee collected signatures urging free transportation for armed services on leave. Mrs. William Bullock said 30,000 signatures have been sent to Ottawa with 7,000 more ready and daily additions expected. Petitions will be sent to Ottawa in batches of 500 starting January 1.
Diplomatic circles report Vice-Premier Laval tendered his resignation to Premier Petain in Vichy. It was not learned if accepted. Laval was said to be in custody as the Petain government discussed a successor acceptable to the Germans and to Petain and Weygand.
Pierre Laval resigned from the Vichy government in Vichy France and his rights of succession to the chief of state were abolished. Marshal Petain named Pierre Etienne Flandin to succeed Laval as foreign minister in a decree cited by the official radio.
