London dispatch notes that British Parliament election balloting is underway and Prime Minister Lloyd George is anticipated to win a safe majority. Daily Express projects 435 seats for Lloyd George's coalition, 310 for Unionists, 125 for Liberals, and 272 for opposition incl. Labor, giving a majority of 165.
Montreal reports the combined strike by policemen firemen aqueduct engineers and incineration department workers ending at nine o clock. The arbitration will replace Tremblay Mann and Beatinger in their current posts while a 50 member citizen committee including Lomer Gouin Martin and Trades and Labor Congress representatives will oversee wage talks. Postmen tramway workers and railroad staff had threatened action but the settlement avoids a general walkout.

The Giant White Star liner Olympic arrived from England today with over 5 000 returning Canadians and some civilians. The ship entered Halifax harbor at sight and moved to its pier while crowds cheered and signals sounded along the wharves.
Paris reports Bolshevik troops forming eleven infantry divisions with cavalry and artillery advancing toward central Europe on a 460 mile front from the Gulf of Finland to the Duiper river. Despatches say the advance began November 11 and German soldiers are reportedly joining the Bolsheviki as they destroy and seize German materiel.

A blaze early last night damaged the wall in the hallway of C. W. Twaites on Third Street. The fire started from an unexplained cause and was brought under control quickly before spreading beyond the wall.

Paris reports the Tenth army extends its march through occupied Kreugnaen moving on December 9 to Bretzenheim Spendlingen Eichloch Diebelnheim and Odarn ium. Elements entered the city of Mayence on the same day as the advance continued.
New York December 12 The navy announces 14 battleships and 10 armored cruisers refitted as troopships plus 44 transports to carry returning American Expeditionary Forces. Battleships will carry about 1000 soldiers and cruisers about 1600 each, with troopships moving sick and wounded. Large sick bays on transports will handle most incapacitated soldiers, while warships and army transports return well troops.
Dr Adolph Deissmann of Berlin University urged the Federal Council of Churches to press the U S government to ease terms of the animal trade policy. The cablegram was read by Rev James McFarland secretary of the council. No action was taken pending the administrative meeting soon in New York.

The Medicine Hat Horticultural Society outlined a broad program at the board of trade rooms. New officers were chosen and a nominating committee formed to assemble a directorate. Honorary president and vice president were named, with cooperation sought from city council and park department to weed control and tree planting.
