McCain Foods plant in Coaldale attracts 2000 applicants
More than 2000 people from Coaldale Medicine Hat and area seek 100 immediate jobs at the McCain Foods potato chip plant. Officials say 3000 applications were printed in anticipation and most were taken between Friday and Saturday as the facility plans to open next spring with 100 jobs plus 100 more on a second shift.

World Peace Bell in Newport to ring New Year
The 30-ton World Peace Bell in Newport is set for its first public ringing on New Year’s Eve with an all day celebration. It will sound hourly from 6 a.m. Dec 31 and then at midnight as the internal 2.7-ton clapper strikes hammer-like and the bell is swung. Purchaser Wayne Carlisle calls it “the people’s bell.”
