Purity Dairy Gains Three Day Milk Delivery Plan

The Board of Public Utilities approves Purity Dairy's three day a week home milk delivery starting Wednesday. Manager Stan Fabbi led the application citing high delivery costs. The change affects 2000 daily deliveries with no layoffs. six milkmen remain in service. wholesale and Ralston routes unchanged. Medicine Hat and Lethbridge dairies are affected. Diefenbaker Cuts NZ Visit After Mother's Stroke

Prime Minister John Diefenbaker left Whenuapai Airport for Canada after word his mother Mrs. William T. Diefenbaker, 86, suffered a relapse and a transient stroke. She is hospitalized in Saskatoon with no paralysis and a clear mind. The trip included a world tour leg in New Zealand before the abrupt departure and planned fuel stops in Fiji and Canton Islands and an overnight in Honolulu.

Alf Pike to remain Winnipeg Warriors coach

Flint Teamster Held On Arson Charge In Fire

Jack Thompson 41 a Flint Teamsters Union business agent was arrested on arson charges related to the cleaning shop fire that left unionist Frank Kierdorf badly burned. Santa Claus Here Visits City For Christmas

The much awaited visit from Santa Claus arrived with hundreds greeting him in the city. He will be at Eaton's Department Store Saturday 9 to 10 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. at city hall, Sunday at the Central Motors Christmas party 3:15 to 3:45 p.m. Then at 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. he will visit the Christmas party at Chi day Santa. He returns to Eaton's 9 to 10 a.m. Monday and attends Salvation Army Brownies 5:30 to 6 p.m. The day closes with Eaton's Ready-to-Wear at the Assiniboia Hotel 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. More dates to be announced.

Balloonists Launch 3000 Mile Transatlantic Balloon Flight

Four British balloonists led by Arnold Hibart begin a 3000 mile voyage from Santa Cruz De Tenerife aboard the 46-foot Small World gondola. The crew includes Hibart, his son Timothy, Colin Mudie and his wife Rosemary. They expect a one to three week crossing, drifting 500 to 1000 feet above the ocean with radio contact and sun star navigation.

Bus Train Crash Kills 2 Students in Ontario

A school bus heading to St. Ignatius School in Essex was struck by the New York Central Detroit er passenger train at an unmarked crossing near Windsor. Two 11 year old boys, David Purvis and Paul Bosney, died, with eight others injured as the bus overturned and skidded on foggy morning. The bus driver Albert Slacht 24 survived with multiple injuries after freeing passengers and guiding them to safety. The train reportedly traveled 80 mph. the engineer saw the bus and applied brakes but could not avoid the collision.
