It was 27 below zero at 7 am today and the forecaster warned of little improvement soon. Temperatures are not expected to rise above freezing until Friday morning, with continued subzero conditions through Friday afternoon.
The German freighter Rhein, built for the British blockade run, was intercepted by a Netherlands warship in the western Atlantic after leaving Tampico.
