A man attempting to rob a Montreal area convenience store was shot and wounded by the owner at about 5 a.m. The incident marked the second robbery shooting in three days and third in two weeks in the region. The owner Rene Lepage fired after investigating with a shotgun and struck the intruder in the backbone. Police found no other weapons at the scene.
Four people were injured in a crash of a Syncrude Canada Ltd aircraft eleven kilometres south of Fort McMurray airport. Two pilots and two company officials were airlifted by helicopter to hospital in Fort McMurray, with one in critical condition.
