German Front Advances Along Meuse and Argonne Fronts

German trenches were occupied along most of the front with a mine destroying one Allied trench. Meuse heights show Allied artillery control and progress across the region including La Petre and the Argonne. In the Vosges northwest of Sinones several enemy assaults were repulsed.

French Improve Position in Continued WWI Artillery Actions

Allied shells opened heavy fire from the coast to the Lys and in the Aisne area. French forces report gains in the Argonne and along the Aisne with artillery exchanges favoring the Allies while German trenches are captured. The high seas action yields British claims of sinking German cruisers Scharnhorst Gnisenau Leipzig and Dresden.

Railway Commission hears Ottawa Street bridge plan proposal

The Dominion Railway Commission met in City Hall with D Arcy Scott and A S Goodeve to consider a petition for an overhead bridge at Ottawa Street and to review Red Cliff Board of Trade's bid to drop C P R switching charges. Mayor Bott represented Redcliff as Lannigan defended the railroad, and the commission reserved judgment, ordering three months of plan and cost preparation before a public vote if approved.

Harry Mason Found Guilty of Murder in Mecolm Case

Vancouver December 9 The Bank of Vancouver left the Clearing House Association of Banks today but continued operations with no apparent run on branches. The bank faces possible closure depending on other banks' stance following the Dominion Trust failure which caused a large withdrawal of patronage. Austria to cede Trent province for Italian neutrality

Rome reports Prince Von Baelow says Idea Nazionale dispatches authorized to negotiate Trent’s cession to Italy in exchange for Italian neutrality. Austria may announce Trent independence to justify Italy’s occupation, with possible protection for Trieste. Trent, in Tyrol, has an Italian-speaking silk industry and hosts historic city of Trent.
