Ottawa CP reports a letter signed by 17 economists asking Finance Minister Fleming to dismiss Bank of Canada Governor James Coyne. Coyne, chairman of Carleton University board, has argued Canadians live beyond their means.
Toronto report says starting Monday Bank of Montreal branches will use Bankers Dispatch Corporation to rush cheques between banks. The service halves clearing time from two days to one and aims to cover 180 Ontario branches within three months. Trucks operate all night with pickups from exterior wall safes.
At McGuire Air Base Lt Gen Robert M Lee warned that Bomarc B effectiveness hinges on Canadian storage of atomic warheads. He said peacetime nonstorage would weaken operations until warheads could be moved into Canada in an emergency. Canada aims to receive B models in spring 1962 at North Bay and later Mont Laurier.
A highly radioactive capsule, the size of a vitamin pill, broke loose from a control cable at the British American Oil marine terminal in Port Hawkesbury Nova Scotia.
