In Canberra on December 7, 1939, Trade and Customs Minister Thomas W. White announced the Commonwealth would drop its trade licensing system in favor of protective duties. Wintering Cooper Horses at Conrad Farm Trial Opens
The Supreme Court session opened with O. L. Cooper suing Milton Conrad Sr. over a verbal wintering agreement. Gerald C. Howson testified that in October 1936 Cooper and Conrad agreed to care for Cooper horses for one dollar per head per month, with hay straw and water supplied. The horses would be kept on Conrad’s irrigated farm and on an uncut crop. The location for the latter feeding was unspecified. Only the two men were present during the explanation.

Damery Committed for Trial in Infant Death Case
Hector Damery, 23, a former packing-house worker, was committed for trial by Magistrate A H Gibson in Edmonton police court on a charge of murdering his three month old daughter Lauretta Jeanette. The inquest evidence was accepted with the exception of Mrs Damery and no further witnesses were called. The baby died after being slapped by her father on November 26.

Cadomin Hotel Destroyed By Fire In Alberta Town
Cadomin Alberta reports a blaze early yesterday destroyed the Cadomin hotel housing 16 evacuees. Two barns and three garages burned in the plaza area, total losses pegged at £10,000. Peter McKenna operated the hotel. A two day pair had subsided about two hours before the fire. Officials warned wind could have endangered the town. The 16 fled with little time to save personal effects.
