Billions tied up as oil projects shut in Alberta

About 7.7 billion dollars of oil projects in Alberta and the Northwest Territories were paused or canceled as weak prices hit development plans. Suncor delayed a 200 million oil sands project and a 470 million heavy oil expansion, while Gulf Canada Resources scrapped the Amauligak offshore venture in the Beaufort Sea.

Bakker faces jail in PTL fraud case

In Charlotte AP reporting Jim Bakker and ex PTL aide Richard Dortch face charges of defrauding about 150000 contributors and using over 4 million dollars of donations to fund an extravagant lifestyle. Two other Bakker aides are indicted for alleged tax evasion. The grand jury says they used fraud to sell lifetime partnerships in the ministry theme park after a long investigation.

Gorbachev heads to New York for arms control push

Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev departed Moscow for New York with Raisa and top advisers to present a moderate foreign policy stance and press for rapid arms control progress under the incoming U.S. administration. Hauling rules revised for gravel truckers in Alberta

Alberta Transport Minister Al Adair announced revisions to haul regulations for gravel truckers after kickback allegations.
