A regional forecast calls for a 70 percent chance of rain or snow Sunday with a high near 4 and a low around minus 12. Conditions on map page B5 indicate unsettled winter weather and potential surface accumulation.
A federal court suit filed by the Canadian Postmasters and Assistants Association claims Canada Post unlawfully shut six rural offices including Aylesbury Sask. The association says locals oppose losing service while a Canada Post manager defends operational changes. Negotiators reach a tentative agreement ending a nearly five month BC woodworkers strike. Dr. Henry Morgentaler offered to assist Premier Getty in setting up government run abortion clinics to resolve a dispute over extra billing that has driven Alberta women to seek services in the U S and elsewhere. Biologists in Newfoundland captured 11 caribou by helicopter for shipment to Maine. Thirty animals including 26 cows and four stags will be immunized and travel 34 days across the Gulf of St Lawrence to a northern Maine reserve near Baxter State Park. The aim is to reestablish a herd extinct for 82 years and later move offspring to the Bay de Verde Peninsula if Newfoundland aid continues.
