Former city CAO Ray Barnard remembered after his passing

City council learned Monday night that Ray Barnard, who served two terms as chief administrative officer in the 1990s and 2000s, died in October in Edmonton at age 72. Barnard, a certified management accountant with an MBA, joined the city in 1989, left in 1995 for health care, then returned in 2008 to serve until 2013. Major projects during his last term included the Medicine Hat Event Centre, downtown revitalization, and the Dunmore Road overpass, with a flood response during his tenure and creation of a destination marketing organization. An obituary notes his wife Dodi, two sons, two grandchildren, and two brothers. Memorial service held Nov. 1.
