Calgary youth Clarence Clarke dies in World War I

News arrives from Calgary on December 1 that Clarence Henry Clarke known as Clarence or Happy Hawkins has been killed in action in France. He joined the Boys Brigade and ambulance corps in Calgary before moving to Medicine Hat where he led as a Boy Scout patrol leader and bugler. He later joined the 50th Battalion as a bugler, sailed from Canada last fall and died in France.

Archbold Dies at Home in Tarrytown at Age 64

John D. Archbold president of the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey died at his home in Tarrytown early today. He was 64 and a leading figure in the oil industry with a long career as head of the major refining firm.

Robbery defendants held for trial in Manyberries bank heist

Preliminary hearing for J. Wilson and Alexander McLaughlin on the Manyberries Bank of Commerce robbery case ended with committal for trial. Witnesses described the hold up, binding, gagging, money taken from a tin box, the black bag, and the ensuing pursuit to a garage where Wilson was captured and McLaughlin surrendered. Witnesses from the bank and local hotel corroborated the sequence and pursuit.

Special Trains Postponed to December 13 Due to CPR Arrangements
