Reds Propose Four Armistice Supervision Limits

MUNSAN Korea AP Communist negotiators pressed four supervision limits for a Korea truce as UN allies objected in a new sub committee. They sought airfield building during armistice and limited neutral inspection to ports only. Also a ban on troop rotations and shielding reconstruction from inspection. A prisoner exchange sub committee was proposed to begin. Nam II promised an answer later. Another point needed is foreign troop withdrawal recommendations.

Cost of Living Index Rises to Record 191.2 in October

The living cost index climbed 0.8 points in October to a record 191.2 from 190.4 with all groups rising except home furnishings and service. Food costs led gains with higher prices for potatoes milk canned vegetables corn flakes cocoa jam and corn syrup.

Finer Crusted Gravel Planned for 352 Street Work

City council approved using a finer crushed gravel at an extra cost of $6,000 next year for street repairs on 352 Street. City engineer J. L. Carswell cited lack of available gravel pits and delayed crusher delivery till January. Alderman J. W. Douglas warned current gravel damages vehicles yet supported prioritizing First Street improvements amid heavy traffic and construction at the power plant.

RAF pilots lost in flight near Concepcion

An RAF fighter pilot was killed and another wounded when they bailed out after becoming lost in dense overcast near the end of a flight from Singapore. A third plane landed safely.

Vishinsky Says USSR Will Allow Atomic Plant Inspections

Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Vishinsky announced Russia would permit inspections of its atomic weapon plants once the United Nations general assembly decides to outlaw all atomic weapons. He spoke after a disarmament committee session and pressed for a binding general assembly decision before any treaty is signed.

Eight Killed in Three U.S. Plane Crashes

In three separate crashes, eight airmen and ten others died, including seven service members. A B-29 crashed near Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, damaging five houses. A private twin-engine plane hit a Reno roof and a vacant lot. Pensacola deaths were reported with six servicemen killed.

May Lease Athletic Park To Be Run By Trustees

The city council agreed to study transferring Athletic Park from the recreation commission to a five member trustees based system. City solicitor J G Kidd said the city could lease to trustees and the trustees would bear debts while the city remains responsible for past debts totaling about 800 dollars. The plan would keep city liability but assign operation to trustees with revenue reimbursement possible.

Renewed clashes in Suez leave dozens dead and wounded

In Suez today fighting between Egyptian police and civilians and British troops escalated for a second day in 24 hours. British casualties include three dead and eight wounded among British soldiers and Mauritian troops. Egyptian deaths and injuries run high with figures varying from 16 to 68 wounded and about 20 killed or wounded.

Ottawa announces H A Scott of Toronto will become Canadian ambassador to Cuba in the external affairs department. He succeeds Dr H Coleman, the former ambassador to Brazil, and has served as consul general in San Francisco since June 1948. He is to assume the post by year-end.
