Analysts hail a four year low of 9.6 percent unemployment after 100,000 new full-time positions last month. Ontario led gains with 45,000 new jobs, while Quebec added 38,000 and other provinces posted increases. Newfoundland fell. The goods and services sectors also posted growth.

Jeffrey Thurston 20 of Taber attempted hanging in his Lethbridge Correctional Centre cell after being named as a possible suspect in Eileen McCoy's 1997 Taber murder. He was saved by a guard and remains under watch as RCMP finish a search of his Taber home and forensic testing continues.
UN peacekeepers in Bosnia wait at a Visoko camp for a promised release of 55 Canadians after a Bosnian Serb pledge to free hundreds of UN soldiers. Spokesmen in Visoko and Zagreb report no ground release yet as 400 plus Canadians monitor news and await action.
