Experimental AIDS drug set for Lethbridge

In Lethbridge Alberta doctors prepare to administer AZT to AIDS patients with approval from Dr John Gill of Foothills Hospital Calgary The drug will be provided on a patient basis and dosed under supervision with monitoring at the hospital AZT is among 40 centres in North America and the Alberta medicare program covers full cost while early Toronto Vancouver and Calgary centers had prior access The drug aims to block HIV replication but can worsen condition in some patients and must not be used with marrow-suppressing drugs

Arafat to speak in Geneva after UN rebuke

Safeway to Sell Nine Alberta Stores Including Edmonton Outlets

Canada Safeway Ltd. will sell nine Alberta stores over six months from Jan 7 to June 3 1989 to buyers ready to run them as food stores. Two Edmonton outlets and the Lethbridge store go to Horne and Pitfield Foods Ltd. Three Edmonton sites go to Bateman Foods Ltd. and two to Hull's Foods Ltd. The Red Deer Woodward's outlet also sells to Horne and Pitfield while Safeway continues operation until ownership transfers. Workers will be retained.
