Edmonton December 2 The Federal Government will not supply special drought relief to Alberta areas this winter. Dr W W Cross said he was notified by J G Gardiner of Ottawa that drought area relief obligations in Alberta are impossible this year. The province argues 36 municipal units lack cash return to support relief, while Ottawa says Alberta had a good crop and must fund rural relief. The $80,000 drought grant earlier this year has been reduced due to improved conditions.
Christmas Cheer circular letters are mailed today to former contributors to the Christmas Cheer Band. Fraternal groups are urged to present the matter at early meetings. Miss Elsie Fode of 824 Fourth St. suffered burns to her right hand when wax floor cleaner overheated and ignited after spilling. Fire crews arrived at 8:25 a.m. and extinguished flames before major damage. Constable W. McKenzie took her to hospital where Dr. D. N. MacCharles found the burns painful but not serious.
Nova Scotia recipient Miss Betty Schafheitlin of Canning won first prize of 100 dollars for the beauty of a maple leaf. British Columbia claimed large leaf prizes, with Sadie Wells earning 30 dollars and Mary James 10 dollars. Ontario dominated other maple leaf honors. Nova Scotia, Quebec and New Brunswick top prize history noted.
Arsenal defeated Birmingham 3 1 while Liverpool and Derby County drew 2 2. Aston Villa beat Charlton 2 1 and Manchester United were held 0 0 by Leeds United. In other matches Chelsea beat Bevrton 4 1 and Portsmouth defeated Stoke City 4 0. In Scotland Aberdeen, Raith Rovers and Albion Rovers posted high scores with Celtic and Hearts winning. several third division games also reported.

He says existing Raymond and Picture Butte factories can meet Alberta demand, with 20 000 acres under contract and no market gain for a third plant. Western Irrigation District Sugar Beet Growers’ Association and local farmers push to attract capital for a factory.
Seaforth Ontario December 3 Premier Aberhart arrived to spend the weekend with his mother. He is expected to return to Toronto Monday where he is understood to be discussing financial matters with leading Alberta business men.
The Canadian Welfare Council urges a nationwide system where the Dominion covers total government costs of contributory insurance and provinces finance non insurable problems. Local authorities would handle residual relief while national social insurance systems are phased in.
Paris reports Italy may demand French domains including Tunis as a bargaining chip while France remains firm no. Daladier asks employers to temper labor tensions amid Italy’s sticking point. Andre Francola-Poncet conveys Paris’ unwavering stance on Tunis and other French territories.
In Bucharest three men who confessed to attempting the assassination of Flory Goanga rector of Cluj University were killed by guards as they tried to escape. Their deaths followed the reported mass slayings of Cornelius Codreanu and 13 Iron Guard sub-leaders who also allegedly attempted to escape.
Ottawa reports Trans-Canada Airlines officials studied the Court of Inquiry recommendations on the Regina crash that killed First Pilot David Imrie and Co-Pilot Jack Herald. The probe blamed fog and pilot error and urged checking ceiling and visibility before takeoff to ensure minimum safety limits.
