Unity forces win Lethbridge by election in Alberta

In Southern Alberta the Unity party captured the Lethbridge by election with 3 980 votes for Dr Peter M Campbell and 3 210 for A J Burnap Social Credit. Campbell led from the start. Burnap conceded at 8 15 pm as crowds celebrated. The result seen as a test against Social Credit with rural polls showing mixed shifts.

Bomb strike wounds five in Shanghai parade

In Shanghai five people were wounded when an unidentified assailant threw a grenade at a Japanese troops parade near the Sun Sun department store on Nanking Road. The injured include three Japanese, one Chinese constable, and a British police sergeant. Police killed the attacker on the spot. the home country is listed as Korean. Japanese embassy spokesman claimed it was Chinese. Settlement police then patrolled with mounted machine guns as occupation appeared to continue before withdrawal orders were issued.

Reuters reports the Panchen Lama, Tibet’s ranking spiritual ruler, died in Western China after 13 years in exile from his “Forbidden Land.”

A. H. Cahan Jr. appeared in police court in Vancouver charged with armed robbery at the suburban Canadian Bank of Commerce branch. He was remanded to Dec. 9. Police had been tracking him after a related forgery case and a warrant was issued following a conviction for passing worthless cheques.

J. L. Cray of Brooks will address Alberta listeners from Calgary on Monday December 6 from 10:15 to 10:45 pm in the first of several broadcasts.
