Seaway Reopens Then Closes Within Two Hours

The St. Lawrence Seaway reopened briefly after a three day closure but shut again two hours later due to stormy weather. The first ship, the M. V. Chan, passed the damaged St Louis de Gonzague bridge at 6:20 a.m. bound for the Great Lakes as high winds and rain hampered navigation near the bridge southwest of Montreal.

Swift Current Indians urge Ginnell return as coach GM

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League club Swift Current Indians asked Paddy Ginnell to return as head coach and general manager. The board voted 8-2 to bring back Ginnell, 46, who was fired earlier this season from the New Westminster Bruins. Ginnell had left Swift Current after two seasons to join New Westminster in September.

McLeod sues Medicine Hat for reinstatement and damages

Former Medicine Hat police chief Norm McLeod sues the City and Police Commission seeking reinstatement and 350000 in damages. The notice claims lack of hearing before dismissal and errors in probationary regulations, with hearings set for January 22 1986 and next Monday.

Aquino suspects cleared in Aquino assassination case

Gen. Fabian Ver and 25 defendants were found not guilty in the 1983 killing of opposition leader Benigno Aquino. Rolan do Galman was identified as the killer. Marcos reinstated Ver after the verdict. The court rejected the prosecution witness account of a backshot shooting and said Aquino was killed on the airport tarmac.
