MOSCOW AP a Canadian note delivered by Ambassador Ford rejects Moscow on Nov 7 protest at the Soviet Embassy in Ottawa as unfounded. Ottawa accepts responsibility for material damage and arrests but cannot accept responsibility for the demonstration itself or political consequences.
Welfare Minister A. J. Hooke concludes seven days on the stand in the Kirby Inquiry at mid point. The hearing has heard nearly 60 witnesses, 466 exhibits, and over 5,000 pages since Sept. 12. Hooke discussed his ties to Dr. C. A. Allard and land developer John H. Campbell, stressing no direct business dealings with Allard. The inquiry adjourns until next week for arguments on Hooke matters and resumes Jan. 28 for Hinman testimony.
Halifax Nova Scotia Premier Smith introduces a bill to extend operations at the Dominion Steel and Coal mill in Sydney until April 30 1969. The plan authorizes a Crown corporation to run the plant with Cosco processing until December 31 then government control through 1969.
An Air Canada DC-8 landed an hour late in Paris after authorities checked a bomb threat aboard the passenger aircraft. The scare prompted Paris caution and resumed operations once cleared by security teams.
Italian reports identify Giorgio Zambon aged 22 living in Corconio near Lake Orta as Joseph Stalin’s grandson born to Jakob Stalin and an Italian woman. They claim Jakob died as a partisan after fleeing a Nazi camp in 1944, with Giorgio allegedly using the alias Captain Monti and serving in the Italian army.
U S B 52 bombers dropped 150000 pounds of bombs over the DMZ to counter fresh North Vietnamese thrusts following the second day of clashes with U S and North Vietnamese troops. The strikes targeted concentrations near Con Thien and Gio Linh amid a flare up at Dak To.
Cypriot objections to reducing the 12 000 member Greek Cypriot national guard are delaying the Turkey Greece peace agreement. Cyrus Vance met with President Makarios and urged a quick U N response as U Thant pressed talks with Ankara Nicosia and Athens.
