Sunday selling charges for two Medicine Hat IGA stores

Kai Hon Wong and Ken Woo were charged with violating the Lord's Day Act for selling groceries at their Medicine Hat IGA outlets on November 7. The case was remanded in magistrate’s court until next Wednesday with Dave MacLean acting for the defendants. Wong runs an IGA on North Railway Street and Woo runs an IGA on Crescent Heights.

Lonergan Paroled After 35-Year Murder Sentence

Wayne Lonergan, convicted of second degree manslaughter in the 1943 death of heiress Patricia Burton, was released on parole at Dannemora and hands over to U S immigration authorities for deportation to Canada. Gas well near Brooks abandoned after disaster

A Chevron Standard Oil well 19 miles east of Brooks exploded on November 15 and burned for five days, injuring one man. Firefighter Red Adair helped extinguish the blaze on November 20. Officials say the bore hole is badly caved in, filled with drilling mud, and cannot be returned to production.
