Fire Kills 90 in Chicago Our Lady of the Angels Collapse

Investigators favor a theory that a carelessly discarded cigarette sparked Chicago's Our Lady of the Angels school fire, killing 90 people including 87 children and 3 nuns. First Polio Case Reported in Medicine Hat City

A three year old girl Gale Hendricks is diagnosed with poliomyelitis in Medicine Hat. She is hospitalised at Municipal Hospital and expected to be moved to Calgary's Red Cross Crippled Children’s Hospital. Doctor J M Brown notes two Salk injections earlier this year and a third dose pending. Municipal Hospital cancels several sillectomy plans linked to the polio case. Four prior polio cases were recorded in 1957, last reported November 15.

Chocolate-obsessed thief jailed nine years in London

Eric Godfrey known as the Chocolate Kid was sentenced to nine years at the Old Bailey after a raid on a bank payroll in a taxi cab. He and four others used three stolen cars and iron bars to smash a cab and steal £13,210. Evidence linked him by chocolate dust and rust particles from the bars. The other suspects remain at large.
