The Medicine Hat district faces worsening harvest prospects as two weeks of heavy rain saturates fields. Record rainfall since Sunday, 2.15 inches by 5 a.m., delays harvesting and slows travel on highways and rural roads. Temperatures fell to 43.7 degrees, forcing many homes to run furnaces.
Sakeyy council members return from Red Deer gathering as Alberta government pledges support to the provincial Safety Council. Medicine Hat will become the Medicine Hat branch directing funds from vehicle safety sticker revenue. Dr H C Dixon will speak on rat control at the Alberta Public Health Association convention in Edmonton next week.

Bystanders and a leftist union were blamed. three youths were arrested or resisted police orders as windows were smashed and a freight track blocked.
Two luxury cruise ships the Prince Rupert and the Kathleen collided in heavy fog about 29 miles northwest of Prince Rupert. The Kathleen suffered a severe hull breach while the Rupert sustained minor damage. 180 aboard the Rupert and about 300 aboard the Kathleen were involved with transfers and planned arrivals in Prince Rupert. Skippers are Capt William Eeeles and Capt G O Hughes.
The Foreign Office said Britain will make no move to re open negotiations with Iran over the oil nationalization dispute. In Ottawa Canada rules out further representations to Washington on Canadians cited before a US congressional committee.

Atlantic City reveals 42 of 51 contestants are brunettes with hair shades from light brown to black. The 1951 pageant runs four days from Tuesday with a boardwalk parade to Saturday night events. Marjorie Alma Kelly of Courtland Ontario is Canada’s entrant and Miss Canada 1951.
Roy Wilfred Milner a veteran grain expert and Winnipeg Grain Exchange former president becomes Canada’s first peacetime transport controller with power to issue orders to redirect bulk cargo on rail and water routes and to suspend or change contracts or face penalties. Deputy is W Jackson Fisher, ex colonel and wartime transport planner, to aid grain and shipping policy. Continued on Page Six.
A 22 year old Canadian soldier pleads not guilty to attempted rape assault and being involved in an affray at a general court martial in Seoul Korea. Co accused Donald Michael Gibson 22 of Ottawa along with Alan Davis 24 of Vancouver and Glen Blank 27 of Winnipeg face murder and manslaughter related counts in the grenade killing of three Korean refugees.
