British harbor engineer Frederick Palmer backs Churchill as the harbor best suited for shipping in calm water with rocky protection. The report favors Churchill on cost time and sheltered access, recommending it as the Hudson Bay Railway terminal over Port Nelson.
At Roosevelt Field New York the snow plane Old Glory stored food and rested pilots for a two hour nap before a planned non stop takeoff to Rome before sundown. Runway drying was deemed possible after three days of rain caused gasoline fires.
London Ontario reports Capt Terrence Tully and Lieut James Medcalf will again attempt a trans Atlantic flight in the Stinson Detroit monoplane Sir John Carling. The crew resumes Wednesday morning if weather cooperates after an earlier weather delay.

Winnipeg August 30 special to The News reports a marked rise in grain movement on the Canadian Pacific Railway. Fifty cars of wheat and 244 cars of all grains were handled in the last three days. The influx is expected to quicken toward a peak in the shipping season.

Chicago theatres stayed dark as nearly 400 venues joined a labor dispute with union workers including fans musicians and ushers out of work. The city faced a dramatic daily loss near 200000 dollars as the two union operators triggered the shutdown.
Fort Smith NWT Aug 30 The forest fire near Fitzgerald has moved within half a mile of the midway mark toward Smith and Fitzgerald. Ryan Brothers operate there bringing out gasoline and teams, trying to move to Smith as flames spread across the road. Firefighters work to save buildings unless a strong wind shifts the arc beyond 15 miles in one direction. the extent the other way remains unknown.
Charles A. Levine, after a Paris to London hop in the Columbia, seeks a pilot for the cross Atlantic run to the United States. He has airmen lining up, favors Captain Hinchs life, and waits for weather to clear before attempting the voyage with Levine as companion.
The Pride of Detroit monoplane piloted by Wm. S. Brock and Edward F. Schlee landed in Belgrade at 12:03 PM from Munich. A large crowd including the U S Consul greeted the aviators who said they would rest before departing for Constantinople later.
A telegraph from Chinkiang Kinageu province states the Yangtze crossing attempt near Shanghai is ongoing with about 1000 southern troops holding the southern bank. Reported desertions reduce southern forces to three hundred, as other troops allegedly join the retreating forces.

An unidentified Italian man with his throat cut was found dead aboard the fishing ship Noxco tied up at the Vancouver waterfront. The vessel recently arrived from Ketichikan Alaska after taking aboard crew in Seattle.
Managua Aug 30 Four men are dead and eight badly burned after the steamship Nicaro's boiler exploded as the vessel neared Island Pard en route to Granada on Lake Nicaragua. Eighteen survivors were later taken off by the schooner Angela to Gianda. Authorities have not yet confirmed passenger lists.
Winnipeg wheat on the Grain Exchange moved erratically within a narrow range as Chicago's slump influenced early weakness. Buying support later steadied prices with Seaboard houses making small purchases. oats and rye also showed modest shifts while other grains barely changed.
