Truck and Train Collision Near Hilda Claims One Life
A grocery-delivery truck en route to Richmound Saskatchewan was struck by a southbound CP Rail freight train just south of Hilda at about 8 30 this morning. The truck owner is Mike's Transport Ltd. No passengers were aboard. The engineman sustained minor injuries. The cab of the truck burned and about 60 metres of track were twisted. Two CP locomotives and three empty grain cars derailed. Fuel from at least one engine ruptured. Twenty eight empty grain cars and a caboose remained on the track. Crews from Calgary and Swift Current were en route with mobile cranes.
