Spain seizes ship tied to Sri Lankan refugees

In the Canary Islands the Aurigae, a Honduran-registered cargo ship, was seized by Spanish authorities at the request of Honduran ambassador Humberto Lopez Villamil. Officials say the vessel carried about 155 Sri Lankan refugees from West Germany toward Newfoundland waters in a clandestine voyage. The arrest targets alleged human smuggling and asserts ship detention to uphold international law.

Truck crashes through Checkpoint Charlie escapes to West

A 74 ton gravel truck carrying three people broke through Checkpoint Charlie in the early hours, under fire from East German guards. The vehicle sped more than 800 metres into West Berlin before stopping. no injuries were reported.

Man fined for assault and firearms offences in Alberta

A Medicine Hat man, 39, was fined 900 for forcing his wife to play Russian roulette with a .357 magnum and for firing an unloaded shotgun near her. He was also prohibited from possessing weapons for five years. He admitted to other violent actions including cutting her underwear with a knife after she refused sex. The case includes mention of Pacific Western Airlines executives amid speculation about airline acquisitions.

British Soldier Killed in Night Tank March at Suffield
