Rail workers protest order back to work on Parliament Hill

Hundreds of railway workers clashed with police on Parliament Hill as Ottawa moved to end the five day strike. Riot police blocked entrances to the Centre Block while union leaders and opposition figures addressed demonstrators. Legislation ending the strike passed the Commons and awaited Senate approval.

Mulroney reshuffles cabinet adding two newcomers

Prime Minister Brian Mulroney demoted two ministers and reassigned five others while naming two newcomers to the cabinet. Wanda Woodward Strangulation Tied to Murder Charges

Police and RCMP met to discuss the strangulation death of Wanda Lee Woodward as her family planned funeral arrangements. Daniel Gingras and Calvin Harvey Smoker face murder charges in Woodward's death and armed robbery charges for the Aug. 14 Safeway incident. An unidentified man’s body was found in Edmonton linked to the case, with Woodward last seen Aug. 14 and her truck used in the robbery. The funeral is set for Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Pattison Funeral Home.
