German chain raids hit the London area for six hours and struck the coast with 40 bombers targeting northeast England. Two shops demolished and several hurt in a southeastern district. a bomber was shot down over the Channel. RAF responded with strikes on German and Italian targets.
British bombers extended operations last night striking 27 airfields and targets in Germany Holland Belgium and France. An RAF aircraft returning from Germany downed a German bomber returning from England. Main targets included a Leipzig synthetic oil plant an oil depot and factory at Frankfurt and an explosives plant at Greisheim with several depots also hit.
Ottawa reports an intensive campaign by federal provincial and municipal police to locate individuals who failed to register. A letter was sent to each province s attorney general asking provincial and municipal police to conduct the drive to trace registrants.
Calgary authorities report the first mail car robbery in years as a lone thief broke into a CPR passenger train mail car, stole an unknown amount, and fled. Samuel Martin, 19, of no fixed abode, was arrested three hours later at the Bank of Nova Scotia on charges of vagrancy and attempted fraud after attempting to cash a stolen draft for 897 dollars tied to a Vancouver theft.
