Medicine Hat Airman Among Five Victims In Metz Collision

F O Ross Rayment 25 of Medicine Hat was among five killed when two planes collided near Metz France on Monday night. The RCAF identified four of the dead, including FO Bruce Kirkham 21 of Port Credit Ont Frt Lt William John Rice of London Ont and Mrs William Stonham 33 of Dunnville Ont. Rayment, a Royal Roads graduate, married Janet MacKenzie in 1954 and left behind three daughters. Services set for Friday morning with interment near the airbase.

Unemployed Detroit man’s $9,998.99 benefit check retracted

Mammoth Blast at Taconite Mine in Minnesota

In Babbitt Minnesota a Reserve Mining blast used 625000 pounds of explosives to break over a million tons of taconite rock. Brooks Aldermen Resign in Local Council Turmoil

Record Heat Sparks Alberta Weather Debate

Medicine Hat recorded 93 degrees on Tuesday drawing attention from residents and the weather man who said it is not a record. Calgary and Edmonton posted new Aug 25 highs 86.5 and 87, surpassing prior marks from 1939 and 1932 respectively. Government Won't Act In Strike

OTTAWA The federal government will not ask Parliament to intervene to end the British Columbia longshoremen’s strike. Labor Minister Michael Starr urged direct negotiation between the B C Shipping Federation and the International Longshoremen and Warehousemen’s Union, citing 23 years of bargaining. The union’s 1,300 members halted five major B C ports last week, threatening jobs while coast shipping remains unaffected.
