Vancouver August 26 British Columbia canning industry faced a brief stoppage when 425 workers at the American Can Company went back to work ending a four day dispute. The Vancouver metal workers union signed an agreement with the firm granting all demands. In New Jersey the Federal Shipbuilding yard reopened after a 19 day strike by Local No. 16 CIO affecting 18,000 workers with multiple ships in production.
Evening raids by high speed twin motored Whirlwind fighters and Spitfires struck a Normandy airdrome near Cherbourg and a Belgian field. Bombers were set afire and several Messerschmitts damaged. The raid caught the enemy by surprise as no RAF fighters were engaged.
