Starritt, a Port-au-Basque native, Dalhousie graduate and former RCAF staff flyer, was honored with the King's Commendation in 1943.
Angelo John Lamara was removed from his police headquarters cell at 4 am as authorities probe the Peter Weinberger case. St Lambert council dismissed six constables tied to a two year burglary ring in Montreal suburb. A Jersey City blaze killed two women and a child as a three alarm fire destroyed four tenement houses.
Rumors in London and Paris swirl that Nikita Khrushchev was ousted or dead. A rejected suitor in Brooklyn shot a divorcee and her son, wounded them again, then killed himself. A Chicago bank supervisor was jailed over nearly $500,000 missing funds.
Four workers were in a 25 foot ditch when a sand wall gave way at a Hardisty area site. John Belcher, 22, died after being buried neck deep for two hours. Victor Yamda, 21, Bertoncini, 23, and Basil Litwin, ? were injured and treated. Litwin survived after scrambling to safety. Two men tried to help and a second cave-in occurred.
