In Victoria Victoria B C delegates argued about disbanding the Bay of Quinte conference and forming a new outfit including part of Toronto, with Toronto men dissenting. The issue was sent back for later consideration amid talk of possible Montreal and Hamilton involvement.
A Grand Trunk passenger train collided with another two miles east of Der and Midh, killing four passengers and injuring many. A rear sleeper of No. 14 burned. two bodies burned beyond recovery. Relief trains and officials responded as wire communication remained unavailable.
Vancouver August 24 The Grand Trunk Pacific aims to finish the main line into Prince Rupert by 1912 or 1913 at latest. Progress depends on labor conditions with 5000 workers needed on main line and prairie branches. Two exploration parties study routes to Vancouver from Fort George and Lytton, leaving Vancouver branch plans to be decided after main line completion. termination points and terminal purchases are not planned.
In Lewistown Montana on August 25 W F Boyer a weeklong street photography exhibitor shot himself after walking from a saloon on Main Street. He was 80 years old and had no money. He had come from Butte and died instantly.

Libby Montana August 25 The jury in the Vera Prosser murder trial acquits her on grounds of self defense after 16 hours deliberation. The case involved the killing of her husband R T Prosser on a Great Northern train.
Wireless report from the Megantic says Dr Crippen and Ethel Leneve are not visible on deck during the day but may exercise at night. They reach the deck by a private stair and pass the day reading novels and sleeping in their bunks while passengers crowd to glimpse them.

Missoula Montana August 25 burglars struck the Murphy Lockman grocery on Higgins avenue seizing about 600 cash and 7000 in notes. The robbers forced open the office safe, took deeds personal papers and a large amount of other valuables before escaping.
Fedorenko, an 18 year old accused of arson and burglary, is held in Winnipeg amid a pending preliminary hearing. The Russian Freedom League backs his case, calling him a political refugee fleeing persecution. they vow to fund his defense and oppose extradition to Russia.
Fred Day, porter at the Royal Hotel, was convicted of stealing between a dozen and twenty boxes of cigars from the hotel cellar. He implicated J R Harris, Red Cross Bakery owner, for receiving stolen goods. Nine boxes were recovered. Day blamed the girls and claimed he needed more cash to support his lifestyle. He testified about quantities stolen and sold, and how he moved the cigars to Harris’s shop in a barrel on a band-truck.

Custer, Montana, Aug 25. A. I. Bruner and Ed DeRamey of Billings were held at gunpoint on a freight train en route from Caster to Billings and robbed of all money. Two suspects are jailed at Forsythe, with five other men also held up and robbed of small sums.
