The 56,000 non operating workers lack a contract after eight months of stalemate, with regional wage ideas proposed to reduce national disparities.

Canada Economy Slows in Q2 1973 Amid Food Declines

Statistics Canada reports a one percent rise in real GDP for the second quarter of 1973, but agriculture falls 2.8 percent and food store sales drop 1.4 percent. Price increases appear to curb production with notable declines in retail food sectors and durable goods manufacturing while mining and paper rise. The agency cites rising prices and possible farmer market restraint as factors, with other sectors showing mixed results.
