Transports laden with troops sail from Naples Syracuse and Brindisi under sealed orders likely bound for operations against Turkey. British and Russian naval actions dominate reports with the Gulf of Riga battles involving the Moltke and allied defeats and a sinking off Zeebrugge.
Milan report tells of the Italian submarine Nereide which after 70 hours without food or light and with dwindling oxygen repaired its machinery on the Adriatic bed. The crew, including the commander and two comrades who died, managed to restart engines and reach home base, overcoming an Austrian torpedo strike that sank the vessel briefly.
London reports the sinking of British submarine E-13 after grounding near Saltholm Denmark on August 19. German destroyers fired while the crew abandoned ship. Danish torpedo boats intervened to shield them as fire ceased. Copenhagen Reuters note follows.

Quebec August 23 letter to family reports Hon H S Beland Liberal M P for Beauce county held prisoner in a German fortress after being interned from Belgium where he tended wounded soldiers at Capteilan castle with the castle described as his base of care during the wartime period.
Montreal reports Sir William Van Horne aged 73 underwent an operation for an abdominal abscess and is reported to be recovering and doing well.
Police report 62 speeding violators on the bridge. Since the courtroom is too small, officials will send warning letters this time. repeat offenders will face double penalties. Meanwhile Finlay-Ginther crews work 5,000 acres, with about 1,000 acres of wheat already cut.
