Plebiscite Considered on Hospital Changeover

The Medicine Hat council discussed a possible plebiscite to switch the hospital from city to municipal district administration. The province indicated residents must vote on sharing with surrounding municipalities, with action depending on a favorable outcome. Mrs. Lillian Gust was authorized to continue inquiries with Edmonton authorities.

Second Reading of Power Bylaws For City Plant

City council approves second reading of two power by laws to fund a 3 million dollar extension to the power plant in partnership with Calgary Power Co. The plan provides 30 000 kilowatts with 5 000 kw city owned and the rest by the company. Referendum on Sept 5 will decide. About 6 000 ratepayers vote. The city retains plant ownership. Calgary Power repays costs and interest. City share of 500 000 is financed by natural gas sales. no taxes levied.

Polio Case Reported in Lethbridge Boy

A nine year old north Lethbridge boy with poliomyelitis and chicken pox is in isolation hospital with paralysis in both legs and the back. He was admitted Saturday, marking the second polio case in Lethbridge and district this month.

Claire McMillen of Santa Ana California and Marguerite Carson of Ottawa were named winners of the Powder Puff Derby and the all-women international race with handicapped times. Communists and allied delegates clash over a cease fire dividing line at Kaesong as talks stall. Tenteen-year-old Jackson Sentenced for Rape in Palm Beach
